Edmonton mall announces massive revamp

Londonderry Mall in northeast Edmonton has embarked on a $130-million renovation and remerchandising project to enhance the shopping experience for existing clientele and new markets.

“Northeast Edmonton is experiencing unprecedented growth, and the completion of the Anthony Henday Drive ring road in 2016 will open up access to our property to an even larger market who currently have to travel a substantial distance to satisfy their shopping needs,” said Greg Orysiuk, vice-president of leasing for 20 VIC Management Inc.

GH+A Design has teamed up with MMC Architects to redesign the 42-year-old mall. Dramatic architectural entrances, easily accessible parking options and social gathering spaces will combine to create a sleek aesthetic, coupled with functionality.

The project will include the addition of new retailers and renovations within existing retail spaces. Common areas in the mall will undergo full renovation, including flooring, storefronts, ceilings and washrooms.

All interior and exterior lighting fixtures will be upgraded to energy-efficient LED, while a relocated and larger food court will be flooded with natural light.

Completion is anticipated for 2017.
