The Canadian Institute of Quality Surveyors (CIQS) named new board and executive committee members at its annual general meeting in Markham, Ont.

Dave Burns, principal and co-founder of Calgary’s Aquarius Building Consultants is the new chair. Burns became a CIQS certified professional quality surveyor in 2002 and has more than 18 years experience in the construction sector.

“The construction industry in Canada is booming right now and it’s an exciting time for CIQS,” said Burns. “I’m honoured to be leading an organization whose two thousand-strong membership is helping to keep projects all across the country on track.”

Burns replaces Mark Gardin—past chair of CIQS. Gardin, who is principal of Halifax consulting firm QSolv Incorporated, held numerous positions on the CIQS board since joining in 1996.

Also appointed to the board is Craig Bye, manager of Hanscomb’s Hamilton office and a senior electrical cost consultant with expertise in specialized equipment.

Bye is the new vice-chair and has over 30 years experience as a quality surveyor, trade estimator and electrician. He joined CIQS in 2005 and held previous positions, such as chair of the membership committee.

The association, which represents about 2000 members across Canada, also named seven other members to the committee.
