CaGBC conference to explore the value of ‘green’

Monday, April 14, 2014

The Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC) national conference and expo has a new name. Now called Building Lasting Change, the event is taking place from June 2–4 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. As the new title reflects, the show aims to explore the value of “green” through the lens of sustainable building, real estate and neighbourhood development.

The annual show is the country’s largest green building event. This year, Building Lasting Change will focus on the business case and performance of green buildings, while also addressing the broader value proposition of sustainability in the real estate industry.

Educational sessions will not only explore the operational savings of green building, but will also look at health and well-being, attracting and retaining tenants, and how innovation and job growth are linked with corporate sustainability, shareholder value and environmental quality.

This year’s conference features six different education streams. Each two-day program features five presentations from Canadian industry leaders and expert panels. Real estate professionals have the choice to focus on:

  • Net positive buildings
  • Green commercial real estate
  • The transformative power of LEED
  • Green building policy
  • District scale development
  • Growing the green building sector

Session attendees can also receive continuing education hours for the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Building Lasting Change 2014’s trade show is also expanding to feature 200 booths. Highlights include an international pavilion, green product showcase, corporate real estate and design pavilion and the CaGBC education theatre.

Attendees can also get a first-hand look at what building green really means. This year’s conference features seven green building tours, which will bring attendees across Toronto and the GTA to see what sustainable design and operation actually looks in practice.
